LGBT+ Networks & MIRRORBALL presents a specially commissioned short film and interactive engagement package inspired by research into LGBT+ employee networks in the NHS, based on research by Dr Anna Einarsdóttir for The University of York. The film and downloadable toolkit are designed to drive conversations about LGBT+ networks. Together, they enable audiences to host their own virtual event featuring the film and a set of Q&A to facilitate discussions.
Any Other Business is a commentary on society's support for LGBTQIA+ communities - where we started and how its going. From Stonewall and Section 28 to equal marriage and Pride; Through protest, defiance and determination people have pushed for rights and recognition. But there's still a long way to go and are we doing enough now to continue to fight for the future?
Any Other Business grew from research by Dr Anna Einarsdottir of the University of York about workplace LGBTQIA+ support networks: do they work and who do they work for? The show responds to the lack of diversity in these networks, underrepresentation of marginalised groups and bureaucratic red tape that stunts meaningful discussion, support and activism.
Employers seek to demonstrate allyship through establishing these networks and a tokenistic rainbow lanyard here and there, but if the zero hours contract, non-binary worker has to take time out (and therefore pay out) to attend a meeting, who has won? Is being prolific the same as being progressive?
These networks do not represent the people they supposedly support. So who do they represent?
